Toch  accepteren vele mensen de volgende gedachtegang "Al is dit allemaal mooi en waar – al was kerstmis een heidens gebruik ter ere van de valse zonnegod, dan nog vieren wij het niet om die valse god te eren, wij vieren het om Christus te eren,  om te evangeliseren."

In de Bijbel zegt God duidelijk dat Hij dat soort verering niet accepteert, ook al is het bedoeld om Hem te eren.

Deut 12: 29-31

29) Wanneer de HERE, uw God, de volken, naar wier gebied gij trekt om hen te verdrijven, uitgeroeid heeft, en gij hun gebied in bezit genomen hebt en in hun land woont, 30) neem u er dan voor in acht, dat gij u niet laat verleiden na hun verdelging hun voorbeeld te volgen, en dat gij hun goden niet zoekt, zeggende: hoe dienden deze volken hun goden? Zo wil ik het ook doen. 31) Niet alzo zult gij de HERE, uw God, dienen; want al wat de HERE een gruwel is, wat Hij haat, doen zij voor hun goden; NBG

29 Straks zal de HEER, uw God, voor u de volken uitroeien die nu nog het land bewonen dat voor u bestemd is. Als u het eenmaal in bezit hebt gekregen en er bent gaan wonen, ³⁰ zorg er dan voor dat die volken, die voor u zijn uitgeroeid, niet alsnog uw ondergang worden. Wees niet nieuwsgierig naar hun goden en vraag u niet af: Hoe hebben die volken hun goden vereerd? Zo willen wij het ook doen! ³¹ Nee, de HEER, uw God, verbiedt u dat. Uit: De Nieuwe Bijbelvertaling

Voor Hem, zegt Hij, is het een gruwel en daarom eert het niet Hem, maar valse heidense goden.

God wil niet op de zelfde wijze gediend worden, waarop de  heidenen hun goden dien.

Wanneer werd Jezus geboren?

Niet op 25 december. Hoogwaarschijnlijk is Jezus om en nabij het loofhuttenfeest geboren. Dat kun je afleiden uit de tijden van het jaar waarin de verschillende afdelingen van de priesters dienst hadden. Deze dienstroosters zijn bewaard gebleven en worden vermeld in de Talmoed  . Op grond daarvan kun je uitrekenen in welke weken de priester Zacharias dienst deed in de tempel.

We lezen dat de herders tijdens de geboorte de wacht hielden bij de kudden in het veld. Uit de Joodse geschriften weten we dat de tempelkuddes rond de winter altijd naar binnen werden gehaald. Van november to februari. In december zullen ze zeker niet met hun kuddes in het veld zijn geweest.

De feesten van de Here

U zult zich wellicht de vraag stellen’als de viering van het kerstfeest niet door God wordt geaccepteerd)    welke feesten   kunnen wij dan wel vieren?

Het instructieboek van God, de Bijbel, beschrijft in Levitus 23 de feesttijden des Heren. Deze feesten worden “Moadim Adonia”–aangewezen tijden van de Heer.

De tijd die door God apart is gezet om zijn grote daden te gedenken. De tijd waarop God zijn volk wil ontmoetten

Korte opsomming van de Feesten des Heren

1.      Sabbat Shabbat

De wekelijkse zevende dag waarop niet gewerkt mag worden. Zij staat in het teken van Gods scheppingswerk, en de verklossing uit Egypte

2.      Pasen en ongezuurde broden

Gedenkdag van de uittocht uit Egypte. Jezus stierf op de voorbereidingsdag van pascha als ons paaslam

3.      Feest der  eerstelingen

Op de eerste dag van de week tijdens ongezuurde broden werd de eerste opbrengst van de oogst voor de Here gebracht

4.      Wekenfeest of Pinksteren Shavuot

Israel gedenkt dat het de Torah op de berg Sinai heeft ontvangen en op dat feest werd later de H.geest uitgestort

5.      Dag van de Bazuin.

Feest op de eerste dag van de zevende maand. Heilige samenkomst.

6.      Grote verzoendag

Dag van vasten en gebed. Verzoening gedaan voor het volk.

7.      Loofhuttenfeest

Herinnering aan de tocht door de woestijnen en  dat Israel in hutten heeft gewoond.

In de periode tussen het oude en nieuwe testament werd Chanoekah of Inwijdingsfeest ingesteld. Onstaan:  na de overwinning van de maccabeese vrijheidsstijders op de grieks/syrische legers die het Joodse lands bezet hielden .Daarbij gedenkt men  met name dat toen de tempel werd gereinigd van heidense smeten. Chanoeka wordt dit jaar gevierd van 16-24 december. Evangelie  van Johnanes 10 vernieuwingsfeest .

U ziet dat dit een hele reeks van feesten is. Wilt u meer  weten over de feesten van de Here, dan kunt u dit aan ons doorgeven. (Slide 14)

De Waarheid achter het Kerstfeest.Deel 1.

Introductie

Velen van ons kennen ongetwijfeld het lied “

Switi tem, blijti tem!

No wan tem geersi hem,

Dit lied wordt vaak gezongen in de periode waarin wij nu verkeren, de tijd van het Kerstfeest. Dit is een tijd waarin christenen over de gehele wereld de geboorte van de Heer Jezus Christus gedenken. Deze tijd wordt gekenmerkt door gezellig met elkaar samen zijn, een tijd van vrede en van vooral veel en lekker eten. Het kerstfeest is een eeuwen oude traditie, die al langer dan 1000 jaren in verschillende kerken gevierd wordt; zowel de Rooms Katholieke als in de meeste Protestantse kerken en Volle Evangelische en Pinkster Gemeenten.

Vele tradities in het christendom zijn afkomstig uit de Rooms Katholieke (RK) kerk. Echter, deze tradities zijn niet uitgevonden door de RK kerk , maar zijn honderden tot duizenden jaren geleden daarvoor ontstaan.

Wat is de oorspong van het kerstfeest? Hoe komt men aan de datum van 25 december?

De eerste christenen vonden het niet noodzakelijk om de exacte datum van de geboorte dag van de Here Jezus te vermelden. Lukas, de evangelist, vermelde slechts dat de geboorte van Jezus plaatsvond gedurende de tijd van een Romeinse census, in de regeerperiode van keizer Augustus. Hij vermelde niet eens een maand, laat staan een dag. Markus begint met de beschrijving van het leven van Jezus bij zijn doop. Dit is niet vreemd, aangezien de viering van geboortedagen is onbekend in het oude Israel. In de gehele Bijbel zien wij dat alleen farao (Genesis 40:20) en Herodus (Matt 14:6; Mark 6:21) hun verjaardagen vierden. Voor meer dan 350 jaren na de geboorte van Christus , werd zijn geboorte niet gevierd. 

De viering van het kerstfeest

Wanneer begonnen Christenen dan met de viering van de geboorte van Jezus of te wel het kerstfeest? (Slide 2)

Om deze vraag te beantwoorden wil ik u terugvoeren naar de periode in de geschiedenis van Europa nog voordat het Christendom zijn intrede deed. Toen waren de Europese volken polytheisten. Dit betekent dat zij in meerdere goden geloofden en hen dienden. Zij vereerden geesten van voorouders, geesten van de natuur (water, vuur, bomen) , geesten van de lucht (zon , maan en sterren) etc. Ook keizers werden als goden gezien. Vele goden hadden hun oorsprong in het oude Babylon. De zon werd aanbeden als bron van licht en leven. Deze zone-religie was zeer populair onder de hogere kringen van de Romeinse samenleving waaronder bij de keizers en de militairen. Zowel de Grieken als de Romeinen aanbaden de zon; die religie werd genoemd Mithraisme. Vele feesten werden gevierd ter ere van hun goden. (Slide 3) In dit verband zijn 2 heidense feesten relevant te noemen: Het feest van Saturnus en het feest van de onoverwinnelijke zon.

In de maand december begon in Rome het feest van Saturnus, genoemd Saturnalia. Saturnalia is genoemd naar Saturnus , de god van de oogst. Saturnus was ook de god van vrede en voorspoed (prosperity). De festiviteiten begon op 17 december en duurde tot en met 24 december. In deze periode werd er niet gewerkt, de scholen waren dicht, er werd geen oorlog gevoerd en als die er waren dan werden deze even onderbroken. Kado’s werden uitgewisseld ; varkens werden geslacht en tijdens die periode mochten slaven ook met hun meesters samen eten. Openbare gebouwen en woningen werden versierd met ‘evergreens’- planten die het gehele jaar groen blijven. De reden van het versieren met ‘evergreens’ in december was dat men de geesten die in de kale, bladerloze bossen tijdens de koude wintermaand ronddoolden werden uitnodigden om in de huizen te komen. Volgens deze heidenen hadden deze geesten macht over de lente.

Op 25 december begon het volgende feest, het feest van de onoverwinnelijke zon. De heidenen geloofden dat de zon gedurende de wintermaanden stierf en na 24 december weer tot leven kwam, omdat het daglicht weer langer werd. Dus op deze dag werd het heidens feest “Dies Natalis Solis Invicti”- de geboortedag van de onoverwinnelijke zon gevierd.

Tijdens het bewind van Keizer Aurelianus (214/215-275) werd er getracht om alle religieen te onderwerpen aan deze ene zonnegod. Deze keizer heeft dan ook de 25e december per decreet uitgeroepen tot ‘Dies Natalis Solis Invicti’, de geboorte dag van de onoverwinnelijke zon. 3

De Kerk van Rome en de heidense feesten.

In het begin probeerde de kerk van Rome de viering van dit heidens feest te ontmoedigen, maar aangezien dit moeilijk voor hen was, besloten zij deze heidense gebruiken te incorperen en er een nieuwe betekenis aan te geven.

Paus Gregorious 1 schreef in een brief aan Augustinus van Canterbury dat hij het versieren van de huizen met ‘evergreens’ in december moest toelaten en aanmoedigen omdat dit een onschuldig gebruik is....... Dus als poging om de massa tevreden te stellen deed de kerk mee aan deze occulte symbolen.

Syncretisme (Slide 4-10)

Syncretisme is in de godsdienstwetenschappen een term die verwijst naar het naar elkaar toegroeien van religies, als een poging om uiteenliggende of tegengestelde geloven en religies met elkaar te combineren. De Romeinen waren een meester in het syncretisme. Zij verwelkomden ook Egyptische goden Isis en de Perzische god zoals Mithras in hun religieen.

Een voorbeeld.

Om de bekering van de heidenen in Europa zo vlot mogelijk te laten verlopen werd de aanbidding van de eik gekerstend. De eik werd door de Germanen als een god aanbeden. Om de volkstoeloop bij de eiken op te vangen zetten de missionarissen een mariabeeld en -kapelletje in de bomen zodat de bevolking daar verder kon blijven bidden... “maar dan op een christelijke manier”4

Wat zegt onze God over het syncretisme? (Slide 11)

Heeft men ons doen geloven dat God deze vormen van aanbidding en symbolen die geleend zijn uit het heidendom goedkeurd? Zijn we er zeker van dat het kerstenen van deze symbolen geaccepteerd is door God?

Deuteronomium 18:9

“Wanneer gij gekomen zijt in het land dat de Here, uw God, u geven zal, dan zult gij niet leren doen naar de gruwelen van die volken”. 4  

Jeremia 10:1-4

Luister naar de woorden die de HEER tot jullie spreekt, volk van Israël.

Dit zegt de HEER: Volg andere volken niet na, raak niet van slag door tekenen aan de hemel, ook al jagen die de hele wereld schrik aan. De gebruiken van die volken zijn niets waard. Ze hakken een stuk hout in het bos, een ambachtsman bewerkt het met zijn beitel, verfraait het met zilver en goud. Ze spijkeren het vast, dan valt het niet om. The Power of Consistency.

Consistency is the driving force of a successful human being. I write about it because I realize that this is just the key principle that I need to develop in order to make a difference even more in this precious life which was given to me. Since I decided not to waist any of it any longer I set myself to experience the power of consistency.

Consistency captures the words constant and insist. Constant means that it does not stop, but goes on and on and on ..... the same activity over time. Insist is to demand or declare something in a strong and firm way. Putting these words together I believe that consistency is shown when you demand or declare the same principle, direction or standards wherever you are and whatever you do over and over and over, again and again and again. That means that once you've decided to go for the goal, you do not let anything or anyone stop you from getting there, not even yourself. Instead you move forward every single day, steadfast, strongly following the course that you have clearly set out to achieve.

It is important to consistently move forward in order to experience the beauty of success, since success is sequential in character. That means that it builds itself over time, until the compound effect kicks in. Check deze video voor een simpele uitleg: The slide edge. This means that a number of events will follow one after the other until the final moment arrives. This momentum can only be reached with consistency. This leaves no place for quitting or procrastinating. So, I made up my mind to ponder on this key ingredient to success for the next 7 days, starting today by taking action on it. What 'it' means can differ from person to person. For one it might me starting that research-project, for some-one else the 'it' might be starting a new carrier/business, for you 'it' might be helping your kids through their school-work. But whatever 'it' it may be ...do it consistently and so set yourself up for the momentum that 'it' It's  the power of consistency.

Shabbat Shalom! - Why I keep the Shabbat

Reason Nr. #1

The first reason why I keep the Shabbat is because I believe that God uses one standard for all people. I believe in the God of the BIBLE, meaning the Old and the New Testament. In the Bible God instructs us how to live a wonderful life, a life that pleases Him. I have noticed that even though Israel has a very special place in His heart God's instructions were meant for Jews and non-Jews.  For example when God instructs Israel concerning "Pesach' in Exodus 12:49 he clearly states the standard, 'the same law applies to the native-born and to the alien living among you.' (NIV), 'one law shall be to him that is home-born  and unto the stranger that sojourneth among you' (KJV). Concerning the Shabbat I revere to Exodus 20:10, Isai. 56:2, 6-7 were it is clearly stated that the Shabbat is for the alien, the man, the son of man, the foreigners and for all nations. In keeping the Shabbat I am absolutely not trying to become a Jew. I am simply convinced that God uses one standard for all people, 'first for the Jew, then for the Gentile. For God does not show favouritism'. (Rom.2:10b-11). And the beauty of it all is that now we as non-Jewish believers are grafted in among the others and now share in the nourishing sap from the olive root. (Rom.11:17) What a privilege!

Reason Nr. #2

The second reason why I keep the Shabbat is very simple and brief as illustrated in 1John 2:6 'Whoever claims to live in Him must walk as Jesus did.' Jesus kept the Shabbat (Luc.4:16; Marc 1:21) so I do too since I'm a disciple of Yeshua (Hebrew for Jesus), the Messiah. 

Reason Nr. #3

The third reason why I keep the Shabbat is very personal and might even sound selfish. It's because I want it go well with me and my house. I really want to explore and enjoy life esp. now that I'm so convinced of my God-given passion to encourage women to take their life-journey to THE NEXT LEVEL.  You know, God has prepared works for each one of us to do even before we were born (Eph.2:10). Look at Basalelel and Oholiab for example (Deut.35:30-36:7), whom He equipped and made skillful to do the job He had prepared for them in advance to do completely according to His plan. In my life-journey then I strive to keep the Lord's comments, so it might go well with me and my house as in  Deut.10¹² And now, Israel, what does the Lord your God ask of you but to fear the Lord your God, to walk in obedience to him, to love him, to serve the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul, ¹³ and to observe the Lord’s commands and decrees that I am giving you today for your own good?

Reason Nr. #4

The forth and last reason why I keep the Shabbat is because of my great desire to develop an intimate relationship with God. And I know that He desires a close relationship with me too. In Exodus 31:12-13 God shares His heart on the topic.  ^'Then the Lord said to Moses, ¹³ “Say to the Israelites, ‘You must observe my Sabbaths. This will be a sign between me and you for the generations to come, so you may know that I am the Lord, who makes you holy.' God wants to have that intimate relationship with His loved ones.  God wants to have that intimate relationship with me. Of course I can actually have that intimacy with Him on any and every day of the week. I can do it on Sundays, but that is not the Shabbat. Since it is God's desire to meet with me on this special day which is ordained by Him, I do not wont to miss it! The beauty of it is that while keeping the Shabbat I don't have to wonder weather I'm in His will or not because I know that He longs to meet with me at the appointed time. What a privilege!

And this brings me to a close on my blog-post about the reasons why I keep the Shabbat holy.  I must say that I have not only experienced my relationship with God grow closer and deeper, but I have also noticed a shalom in my heart and mind as never before in spite of the fluctuations of life. This allows me to handle life more effectively and the results are overwhelming! And to God be the glory!

Shabbat Shalom! - Introduction

The more I study Modern Christianity the more I realize that it has so many man-made traditions that were created out of an anti-Semitic heart and a mindset to repay the Jews for killing the Messiah, Yeshua. These traditions were handed  over from generation to generation so now we do not even know that some of these traditions are really not according to the word of God.This reminds me of  the words of Yeshua in Marc 7:13 "Thus you nullify the word of God by your tradition that you have handed down. And you do many things like that.”  

 Constantine, the Emperor states in his letter to the synod in 325,  the first ecumenical Church meeting: "It is the most sacred of all parties unworthy to follow the custom of the Jews. It is our duty to have nothing in common with the murderers of our Lord. We wish us to isolate the odious people of the Jews, as a depraved people." (http://translate.google.com/translate?hl=en&sl=nl&u=http://www.refdag.nl/opinie /laat_pasen_en_pesach_weer_op_een_dag_vallen_1_547858&prev=search).  In the Council of Laodicea, a regional Synod of several clerics from Asia Minor (363–364 AD) many rules and regulation were made for the Christian Church, so called canons. Canon nr 29  stated as follows:  "Outlawing the keeping of the Jewish sabbath (Saturday) and encouraging rest on the Lord's Day (Sunday)". That means that before this time believers in Yeshua, the Messiah kept the Sabbath.

I experience different reactions when I state to people that I keep the Sabbath. Some are skeptical, some immediately start to lecture me on how salvation comes through the blood of Yeshua and not by keeping  the Torah. So, to them keeping the sabbath is like I am trying to fix or buy my salvation by works. Well ... that is not the case at all. To clarify why I keep the Sabbath I will do a series of posts entitled "Why I keep the Sabbath", starting next sabbath. Don't miss it!

Things are Getting out of Hand!

I'm feeling overwhelmed, just like life is passing me by, just like I am loosing control. I got do something about it while I can. I'll take you in on it, so you know how I deal with this. Hopefully you get inspired.

I stop and I pause and then take this information that, I now realize, has been repeatedly brought to my attention, not rudely screaming to be heard, yet softly and constantly "Things are getting out of hand! Things are getting out of hand! Gotta do something about it! Things are getting out of hand!"

First, I pray "Lord-God, things are getting out of hand, I'm loosing control her. THANK GOD .... You have it all in control. What would I do with out you Lord....love Yah".

Second, brainstorming, what a great tool to get back on track. All areas of my life that are getting out of control pass slowly through the TV-screen of my mind.

1. The Foundation Stg. Make A Difference!

• The royal women and the only prince who participated in the MINI-WORKSHOP 'PLANNING 2015', 2e edition need a reminder to attend the Terug-Kom-Dag. I'd love to see them again and hear how they are doing as they pursue their dream to make this year their BEST YEAR EVER!
• The 5 extra-ordinary women who participated in the MINI-WORKSHOP 'PLANNING 2015', 3e edition need to know about the Terug-Kom-Dag of the 2-nd group so they can benefit from this opportunity since there will be a lecture on "How to deal with Stress".
• The same goes for the participants of the 1rst edition. I can't wait to see these inspiring people who really want to make a difference in their lives!

2. Family & Household

• I definitely need to give priority to the bunch of clothes that are just sitting there waiting to be sorted out and organized so that part of the room can look nice again  (.....nasty!)
• I need do prepare lunch today.

3. Carrier

• I want to study certain parts of the Development Plan of Suriname to prepare myself for a new job opportunity.
• I need to make an appointment with the Community Development Workers to supervise them.

4. Spirituality

• I need to do some preps for the next lecture concerning the Biblical feast 'Pesach' .

Third, I now realize that while I was writing all the frustration out, I was also gaining control again and the feeling of excitement kicked in. All I wonna do right now is start my 30 minute work-out....See yah.

God definitely answers prayer! Thank you Daddy!

Rise to the Challenge!

On the 5th of March 2014 I celebrated the Feast of Queen Ester ('Purim') for the first time since I started my Messianic spiritual journey in April 2014. This lead me to once again study the life of Ester. I want to share with you some of the things that caught my attention and hopefully spark you with it's wisdom.

First, God works behind the scenes. In the story of Queen Esther (Hadassah - Hebrew name) it so happened that Jews were carried into exile. It so happened that Queen Vashti ignored the King when he asked her to show up gloriously on his royal banquet. As the story goes Vashti 's royal position therefor needed to be replaced. It so happened that among all the beautiful girls who were brought to the King's palace Esther won the favour of everyone who saw her. It so happened that the King was so attracted to Esther and crowned her as Queen. It so happened that Mordechai came to know about the plot against the King, exposed it and so spared the King's life. It so happened that one night when the king couldn't sleep this particular story of Mordechai 's loyalty to the thrown was read to the king and Mordechai received the honour after all. What a coincidence!

It so happened ... It so happened ...It so happened....Really?! Did it just happen so??? I believe that God worked the scenes beautifully and wonderfully synchronized them in order to save His people. Once you realize that God works behind the scenes the only thing left for you to do is to rise to the challenge and play your part in spite of the fears and doubts you face because you know the serendipity of your God.

Second, rise to the challenge! Once you make it your habit to remember that God works behind the scenes you learn how to go with the flow of life. When you face the  challenges of life your fears will try so hard to stop you from moving forward. But in the flow of life there comes a particular moment when you'll know what to do. One way to deal with fear is to draw your attention from the fear to your God and constantly remind yourself how amazing He is. Think about those times when He rescued you before. Remind yourself until you can wholeheartedly and with a single-mind confirm how amazing your God is. This is the perfect time to just pause and experience how amazing your God is: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nkElMcGVRmk ........ Did you feel that? I did.... Prepair yourself to rise to the challenge, be it financially, concerning your marriage, your study, your carrier, your sanity or otherwise, it doesn't matter.

Queen Esther rose to the challenge. She developed a plan, starting with a spiritual break through by fasting, step 1.  Step 2 was to courageously approach the King without being summoned and then watch what was next. Step 3 could only be planned by faith, the 2 meals for the King and the accuser, Haman and finally her request to deliver her people, the victory. Her Plan of Action was ready. Ester rose to the challenge after she dealt with her fears and doubts. She decided to die with honour if necessary. (Esther 4:16) ... fast for me  ... for three days. I and my attendants will do the same. When this is done, I will go to the king, even though it is against the law. And if I perish, I perish.” Queen Esther took the steps of faith and God rewarded that.

To me Queen Esther is such an inspiration of how to deal with life challenges. She faced her fears and doubts. She rose to the challenge by faith. Let's walk in her footsteps and rise to the challenge, whatever that may be,  knowing that God works behind the scenes. Rest-Rest-Rest!

My Webster's English learner's dictionary describes rest as to refresh oneself as by sleeping, lying down or being at ease (as in free from concern, worry, difficulty). Even though refreshing has to do with providing new strength and energy for years, I could not withstand it when someone told me that a siesta was one of his important after lunch activities. The first thoughts that always came to my mind were "What a lazy-bones! Didn't you get enough sleep last night? Don't you have work to do?" Those who are familiar with the song of 'Trafassi', "Er is nog zoveel te doen" ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2bHvdCP7wa4 ), can relate to my respond. So the idea of working while other people are enjoying their siesta became an inspiration to me to make a difference as I continued my life journey.

The turning point came in April 2014 when I was compelled by the Biblical concept of the Sabbath. I started to analyze the subject and the more I studied it the more my convictions grew towards the authenticity of the Sabbath. I then decided to not only remember the Sabbath but to keep it sacred as well. Weekly from Friday evening at sunset to Saturday evening at sunset I put my daily routines on hold and refresh myself spiritually, emotionally and physically . This new patterning of time has brought me to experience another dimension of time, another time zone which I will discuss in another blog post.

Definitely my respond to those who enjoy their traditional daytime sleep, the so-called siesta, has changed from condemning it to acknowledging its beauty and refreshing power. The words "What a lazy-bones! Didn't you get enough sleep last night? Don't you have work to do?" are now transformed to "Rest is not a luxury, it's essential!" So I challenge you to join me in keeping the sabbath  ....... and let's watch what happens next.
